Executive Committee

The executive committee is comprised of students elected by society members
on a yearly basis. Together they are responsible for organisation of all society activities and act as representatives of the society in the university and in public.

Chesney Ramsdale

President

Hello all! I'am currently a 3rd year War and Security studies Student and I'am delighted to have been elected Society President so that i organise as much fun as possible for our new and existing members while also furthering our own knowledge of the field.

My area on interest mainly rest in cyber-strategy and intelligence gathering with special note to the ethical dilemmas faced in these areas.

I'm hoping to expand the society to as many people as possible as it has a huge amount to offer as well as more diverse and interesting perspectives to be brought in on conflict around the world. I look forward to working with you all.

Henry Moore

Vice-president

Hi! I’m Henry, the second-in-command of War Studies Society and the other half of our societal duumvirate of myself and Chesney. I’m a master’s degree student currently studying for an MA in Strategy and International Security. My particular area of expertise is the topic of counterinsurgency, but I also have a great interest in less contemporary warfare; such as that of Classical Antiquity, the Late Medieval Period, and the 18th- and 19th-centuries. I’ve been a member of the society for nearly 4 years now and hope to work with the rest of the Committee to improve on the great work of the previous Executive and give back to the society and it’s membership.

Jack Wright

Academic secretary

I’m a War and Security studies student in my final year of university. It’s also my second year on the executive committee of this wonderful society. Once again, I look forward to helping my fellow students to realise their full potential in every area of university life and assist them in any challenge they may face. The role of Academic Secretary is new to the society this year. In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, my job is to help society members ‘Get action. Do things. Be sane.’ Expect obscure knowledge, maps, mild eccentricity and of course the Spanish Civil War.

Travis Thompson

Social media And marketing

I am a second year War and Security Studies student from Leicestershire. During my first year at university I was a member of Warsoc. This year ill be taking over the role of Social Media and Marketing secretary for the society, managing the content on our facebook page and website as well as expanding our social media presence. Although my interests lie within historical warfare, more specifically the Crimean War and Napoleonic wars, I am excited to develop my knowledge of other spheres throughout my second year and through the society.

James Bolt

TREASURER

I’m a second year Politics and International Relations student from Northumberland and the society Treasurer. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the society in my first year and look forward to helping in the exec this year. My role involves raising funds and handling the society’s financial details so that we can run our socials and activities. My main academic interests are IR theory and East Asian foreign policy, with a particular focus on international environmental politics.

Henry James Osborne

Secretary

As a War and Security Studies student I found the society invaluable in assisting with the complexities of International Politics which I had no prior experience in studying or discussing. The areas I am currently interested in being focused on conflicts in the MENA (Middle East North Africa) region, Intelligence, conflict resolution and Counter terrorism. Since joining the society over the past year it has contributed to my personal and academic development. As Secretary of this society, I will endeavour to keep track of the size and development of membership in the society as well as contribute to the progression of the team as a whole.

Mathew Handisides

Social Secretary

Being Social Sec I see my Mission Statement as one to bond members of the society together as well as establishing relationships with other Societies. To this end my 6 years’ experience as a student gives me a vast array of knowledge on the student lifestyle. I am an alumnus who has graduated in 2018 with war security Studies. My goal is to ensure that people have fun and enjoy their time at University because you only have a short time here and the real world outside University you do not get the same opportunities
